Ricefield’s class leaders Malcy Duff, Laura Tansley and the Village Storytelling Centre worked with a group of S1 students from Hillhead High School during the Takeaway China Festival to creatively respond to the exhibitions of Polly Braden (Trongate 103) and John Thomson (Burrell Collection). Revealing China in the 19th Century and modern day, these separate photographic exhibitions uniquely documented life, landscape and architecture from two different historical perspectives.

This book features the drawing and writings from the children. The PDF version of the book is available from HERE. Hard copy is also available upon request.

Photographic reproductions in this book are from Polly Braden’s series China Between. China Between is a photographic essay on the modern city culture of contemporary China; an intimate response to the material and psychological effects of the changes experienced by the country’s new urban class.
